Cardamon Infused Overnight Oats or Bircher Musli

I have to be the first to say that I’m not the biggest fan of porridge oats unless they don’t taste like porridge oats so I was a little sceptical to say the least when I started dabbling with overnight oats a couple of years ago.  

I mean how are oats supposed to taste good when they are cold? Well trust me these do.  The great thing is that you can adapt this recipe to suit your individual tastebuds. Throw in nuts and seeds you like and leave out things you don’t enjoy.  It requires a little bit of prep but totally worth it. Bircher Musli or Overnight Oats is a super simple and healthy breakfast option

I personally like to keep my Oats simple that way I can go crazy with the toppings and as everyone in the family likes something different it means we can adapt to taste. 

This recipe is my basic Overnight Oats recipe.  It lasts several days in an airtight glass jar and means its easy to grab in the morning.

Overnight Cardamon Oats or Bircher Musli

Ingredients
  1. 1 cup organic oats
  2. Handful raisins (or chopped dates)
  3. 1/2 tsp of cardamom
  4. 1.5 / 2 cups of Almond Milk (or any milk of choice)
  5. Sesame Seeds 2 tbsp (optional)
  6. Pumpkin Seeds 2 tbsp (optional)
  7. Flak Seeds 2 tbsp (optional)
Instructions
  1. You will need a large glass jar with an airtight lid.
  2. Place your oats into your jar.
  3. Add you raisins (or dates), Cardamon, Seeds and Nuts
  4. Add your Almond Milk to your jar. Make sure your Oats are submerged in the milk and close the lid.
  5. Place in fridge overnight.
The next morning
  1. Give your oats a good stir.
  2. Take out the amount of oats you plan to eat.
  3. Top your oats with fruit and nuts to your liking.
Notes
  1. If you like your Overnight Oats less milky add 1.5 cups only. You can always adjust to taste the next morning.

Plain Overnight Oats. Top bowl topped with chopped banana,roasted pecans and drizzled with maple syrup. Bottom bowl chopped mango, apple and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

 NOTE TO MY GIRLS: To my eldest you love this and this will be a great recipe for you when you go to university.  You can’t stand being hungry and this will keep you going during the day.  To my youngest, you are not yet a fan but you are only 7 and I will keep trying.  Closest thing you like to porridge is Ready Brek topped with raisins, cinnamon and maple syrup.
